Which iron supplementation regime for pregnant women provides the best maternal and infant outcomes?

This project jointly conducted by the RTCCD and the University of Melbourne (UoM) and funded by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to compare the effects of three different methods of iron supplementation in pregnant Vietnamese women on maternal and infant health outcomes has been logistically implemented having strict collaboration among stakeholders.


The Ha Nam field office has been established and recruited 8 staff: 1 supervisor, 3 full-time and 3 part-time project officers, 1 data entry clerk whose background is in medicine and public health.

The
Memorandums of Understanding in which the role, responsibilities and benefits for each side were clarified and agreed have been signed between the RTCCD and Ha Nam Centre for Preventative Medicine, NIMPE and NAPHACO.

The
technical documents (protocol, questionnaires, guidelines, IEC materials etc) and management documents (office management, financial and personnel management etc) have been co-developed by coordinators of the  RTCCD and UoM.

The
launching project workshops at provincial and communal levels  commenced on August 25, enrollment and baseline survey will completed in October 2010.
