Policy making and the participation of social scientists in policy administration: Shared experiences from America

The delegation which includes 10 leaders of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, Commission of Social Affairs and Institute of Policy Making Research of the National Assembly had a study tour in the United of States between July 19 and 27, 2010.  The study tour aimed to provide delegates with an understanding about the policy making and the participation of social scientists and civil society organizations in policy development, approval and administration in the USA, at both the state and national levels.


The delegation had 9 full working days in Washington DC and North California including discussions with the US National Assembly and State Assembly, 14 organisations and 4 families.

 

The study focused on 4 issues:

  • USA legislation and superstructure
  • Policy making in the USA
  • Citizens’ participation in policy development, approval, administration, as well as monitoring and evaluation of policy effectiveness
  • The establishment, development and contributions of the independent research institutions towards (1) the policy development and administration at state and nationale levels, (2) home and international affairs

As a delegate, Dr. Tran Tuan (Director of the RTCCD)_has summarized 12 points from his US experiences and recommendations for the discussion for VUSTA development in regards to encouraging research activities to support the policy making made by the National Assembly and by justice systems of Vietnam.  For more information, please contact Dr. Tran Tuan at trantuanrtccd@gmail.com
