Collaboration to Reduce Arsenic Harmfulness in Mental Health in Vietnam
16:49' 20/4/2010

Arsenic is a common harmful substance in the groundwater of many South and South-East Asia delta plains, such as the Red River Delta Plain of Vietnam. It is estimated that about 10 million people in Vietnam are affected. Arsenic in low concentrations can already affect mental and neurological abilities of people, but only little knowledge is available on these consequences.

On 14 April 2010, a German team, Dr. Christine Norra and Prof. Dr. Hanns Jurgen Kunert from the Institute of Psychology Germany visited RTCCD and discussed about an opportunity of collaboration. The collaboration is not limited to:

·         Development of an intervention program to reduce the harmfulness of Arsenic on people’s mental health toward the preventive approach;

·          Validation of measurement tools;

·          Provision of recommendations on site selection and counterpart linkages.
